The piece combines gastronomy, sound, circus arts, and media art, focusing particularly on the symbolism of trees as part of the processes of life, death, and renewal.

Phloem refers to the layers of the tree that carries the life force, and through this, the performance creates a link between the cycles of nature and the body’s cyclical processes. Through the dead tree, Kelo tree, at the end of its life cycle, a metaphor for fragility and renewal emerges. The movements and soundscape express this connection, where the pulsating life of the tree and the human movement merge. The work moves toward darkness, yet also brings forward the possibility of hope, reminding us of life’s continuity in its fragility. At the same time, the fusion of gastronomy and art deepens the symbolism of natural materials, such as wood, and creates a new connection to the cycles of nature through the preparation and presentation of food.

The performance serves vegan and gluten free food.

Lumo Company is a Finnish contemporary circus company where movement becomes language, risk becomes poetry, and performance becomes a space for shared imagination. Since 2015, Lumo Company has been crafting evocative experiences that unfold in theatres, on city streets and unexpected corners of the world.

Flor artists of Lumo Company each creation is a new terrain, a space where circus, physical movement and visual art intertwine. They invite audiences into tactile worlds that challenge gravity, embrace vulnerability, and celebrate connection. Guided by a deep curiosity about the human condition and a belief in the transformative power of art, they create performances for both theatres and outdoor spaces.

Read more: Lumo Company

Working group

Concept Hanna Moisala
Direction Hanna Moisala, Jere Mönkkönen, Joona Kukkola
Assistant director Jenni Lehtinen
Light and technical design Jere Mönkkönen
Circus artist Hanna Moisala
Music and sound design Joona Kukkola
Video and editing Jon Fraser
Costume design Riikka Manni
Gastronomy Monika Bloch
Art & Food Collaboration Inês Coelho da Silva
Script writer / Video Naida Valencia
Photographing Heidi Honkala
Phloem Flour Mimmu Nikkari
Production Lumo Company

The Phloem is supported by The Finnish Cultural institute in Madrid as part of the pARTir initiative funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

*

BY TICKETS

Performances
wed 10.12. at 19
thu 11.12. at 19

Venue
Oulu Cultural Centre Valve, Hallituskatu 7

Tickets
Normal 25€
Retired 20€
Students, unemployed, kids under 16 years, military and civil service conscript 15€
Theatre and dance workers 15€
A limited number of Kaikukortti tickets are available.
Please note!
