“Utterly masterful!” – Fringe Review UK
Julieta tells the story of a woman – full of experiences and quirkiness – and the multiple layers that old age brings. Transcending the literal to accommodate the humor and nuances of the human experience, it is a visual non-verbal one-woman show of physical theatre that deals with the split between youth and old age. Bursting with wit and zest for life, Julieta shares her days with us and invites us into her home that has become her whole world. Through her daily routines we witness the different stages of life, and how our self-image transforms, mutates and warps accordingly. As her surroundings morph into a mirror house of memories, Julieta finds ways to adapt. Inspired by the life of Gabriela Muñoz’s great aunt, Julieta is a tribute to a full life, and a life lived to the fullest.
Mexican clown Gabriela Muñoz moves her audience through pathos to humor, keeping her audience on the edge of their seats as they move between her reality and her imagination.
Gabriela Muñoz has a variety of experience in theater, circus and opera. She finished her studies at the London International School of Performing Arts (LISPA) based on Jacques Lecoq’s pedagogy, following a 2-year postgraduate course and a year course at the School of Physical Theatre in London. In 2019 she created DIRT!, which was nominated for a City Award for best show and in 2020. As a celebration of her 10 years as a clown, she published a book Chula The Clown (edited by Sicomoro Ediciones), awarded with the national prize of graphic arts. That same year she received a medal for her international merit by the Congress of Mexico City in the field of cultural promotion.
