Two detectives and the mystery of an eaten apple and the lost tie. When investigating cases, detectives face various challenges and run into funny situations while solving them. During the working day, they team up to solve imaginary crimes and dream of catching the master thief.
Detectives is a new stage work combining physical comedy and contemporary circus, and it will premiere in the fall of 2024. Masters of physical comedy, Marc Gassot and Kalle Lehto, act as unconventional detectives in an adventure where the whole detective genre twists into unexpected paths. The show ventures into a surreal world where nothing is as expected. Welcome on board of the Detectives!
The visit is organised in collaboration with Oulu Theatre as part of the Oulu Children’s Theatre Festival.
Marc Gassot graduated as an actor from the Theatre Academy in 2002 and from the Jacques Lecoq Theatre School in 2006. He has also attended several courses at the École Philippe Gaulier. Gassot’s special skills include physical acting and mime. Gassot has performed in several Finnish theatres, including Turku City Theatre, Espoo City Theatre, Takomo Theatre, KOM Theatre, Tampere Theatre, Tampere Workers’ Theatre and the National Theatre. He is also well known for his outstanding work as an actor in movies and tv.
Kalle Lehto is a versatile circus artist and one of the founders of the Race Horse Company. Unafraid of new challenges, Lehto has created several internationally touring shows and has received the Circus Enchantment Award, the State Award for Circus Arts, the Children and Youth Theatre Award and the Children’s Day Award.
Circo Aereo is Finland’s first and longest-running contemporary circus company. Circo Aereo’s artistic work has played a key role in the development of new circus as an independent art form in Finland and in the international breakthrough of Finnish circus art in the 2000s. The group’s multi-artistic performances have been seen in more than 40 countries on five continents. The group was awarded the Finland Prize in 2009. The group works not only with circus, but also with professionals from object and movement theatre, visual arts, dance and music. Communicating with the audience and offering unique experiences are the group’s core values. Reduction to the essentials and a precise choice of means of expression are the basis of Circo Aereo’s minimalist but highly charged style.
Race Horse Company was founded in 2008 and was born out of the need to create an uncompromising, unique contemporary circus. The company’s energetic works are built around skilled acrobatics, an aesthetic of chaos, dark humour and moments of surprise. The group’s extremely physical performances, laced with a genuine sense of danger and humour, have left their mark on the contemporary circus world. From the beginning, RHC set its sights abroad and quickly became one of the most active Finnish performing arts groups touring the world. RHC was awarded with the State’s Circus Award in 2016 for their uncompromising work and risk-taking.
