In Follow me Ward Mortier and Thomas Decaesstecker confront and play with the public space, here-and-now. The duet takes their audience and fellow travellers, the followers, on an acrobatic and theatrical journey through the urban environment, encountering along the way a diverse range of “everyday” situations. The streets become the stage, urban façades a backdrop, cobblestones a dance floor, with the honking of passing cars as a fitting soundscape.
The ‘followers’ are each given their own folding camp stool and they are invited to actively participate in the play as they see fit throughout the performance. By playing around with absurd situations in the common public space, Be Flat hopes to stimulate creativity long after the performance is over.
Thomas (Tervuren 1989) and Ward (Ghent 1993) first met at a freerunning gathering in Ghent in 2008. Sharing a mutual passion for music and movement during the ensuing years has led them to a unique and solid friendship.
Ward studied Chinese pole combined with acrodance at ESAC (Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque, Brussels). Thomas followed training as acrobat and hand-stand artist in Santiago, Chili at the Escuela De Artes Circenses Del Circo Del Mundo. Their mutual interests, combined with their individual specialisations and experiences, guarantee a broad range of skills to be used in a gamma of contexts and situations.
