Ilona Jäntti, internationally acknowledged circus performer orginally from Oulu, returns to her home town with her unique world of aerial acrobatics. Jäntti’s performance combines three pieces, Huhu, Footnotes and Muualla/Elsewhere, into a night of physical and spatial illusion.
HUHU: The fundamental notion of Huhu is the investigation of how space is perceived. Architectural ideas have been examined in unconventional ways through aerial work and animation as scale, perspective and gravity do not apply to the performer or her environment.
MUUALLA/ELSEWHERE explores the possibilities of combining animation, circus and dance in a live performance context. The interaction between the animation and the performer enables a dialogue between the real and virtual worlds: animated environment and emerging creatures are affected by the performer and vice versa. The imagery of the piece is constantly changing and nothing is what it seems to be.
FOOTNOTES was first created during Jäntti’s MA studies in Laban Centre. It was premiered in London’s Jacksons Lane theater in 2009.
