We have rehearsed Slapstick in Valve theatre this week. It is the choreography of Vaatu Kalajoki and Pauliina Tyni that they invited me to direct. We created new versions of the scenes that Pauliina and Vaatu had been working on. Today I brought some new music suggestions that we tried out. Django Reinhardt worked really well for a couple of scenes. We also tried Ink Spots and Audrey Hepburn´s song from Breakfast at Tiffany´s. I found Reinhardt and Hepburn while listening to Jónsi´s interview on NPR. (Jónsi is the lead singer of Sigur Ros.) It´s funny what the sources of ideas sometimes are.
We have had a lot of fun in rehearsal. It is very demanding to direct a piece when all of the original ideas are there and you just need to figure out what is working and what is not, and especially how things should be changed. I feel that my brain is overloaded just now. Great to have the Easter holiday for a couple of days.
